A Story

At first all she could smell was a stench that filled the room, strong enough to make her eyes water . Her hand quickly flew to her face trying to mask the odor. Her watered eyes scanned the room looking for the source of the smell. The room was small in size. A single room efficiency with a small patch of old curled linoleum, that obviously served as the kitchen. A small counter space with room for only a coffee pot and a toaster oven. I nodded towards Jenkins to check out the kitchen, as I headed to the back of the room where the small bathroom was located. Michaels, my partner for the last 2 years, had been here a good half hour before calling me, warning me, “Sam, its brutual, be prepared” he said. I wish he had warned me about the smell.

The closer I walked to the bathroom I expected the smell to get worse, but it was faint at the back of the room. If the odor wasn’t coming from the dead woman laying half in, half out of the tub, where the hell was it coming from? Michaels had the bathroom taped off, the forensics team were knelt before the body photographing the poor woman. Jessica Susan Richards, divorced mother of three boys. A legal secretary at Smith, Connor & James, a prestigous law firm in town.

Her hair with daddy’s curl.

But as I get steadily older I realize
Its something that will never be.
